The boiler can be placed anywhere adjacent to an external wall for the vents but preferably away from any windows.09/06/16 By Welshboy

Steam cleaning can lift the grime. Worst case it can be cut out using a mini grinder like a dremmel or a multi tool and re-sealed.30/03/16 By HYH Admin

I have a complete blank space, kitchen is 20 X 10 and I don't know where to begin!

I would start with positioning the sink under a window and have the fridge and cooker positioned to give you the classic triangle. A good work space adjacent to both sides of the cooker and sink. Everyday items at eye level. If possible under floor heating, extractor over the cooker, non slip floor.30/03/16 By HYH Admin

Score the Woodchip before trying to remove it. Try a wall paper removing gel rather than a steaming as the combination of water and wood chip will make a mess.30/03/16 By HYH Admin

Any concrete or preferably natural stone flag will do the job as long as they are bedded on a full floor of mortar and pointed correctly. All floors will need at least an annual jet wash and some pointing repairs.30/03/16 By HYH Admin

Always check with your local planning department, they are there to help. Basic guidelines are "No more than half the area of land around the "original house"* would be covered by additions or other buildings or forward of the principal elevation or side elevation fronting a highway.30/03/16 By HYH Admin3mt away from home definitely will not need planning permission30/03/16 By susan greer

Looking for storage solutions for plates and wall storage
Category: Kitchens | Posted By Shirley McGovern-
Try a bookcase. See if you can find one on Gumtree or similar site, bookcase with 3 shelves. Add some battens to top and bottom of each shelf to support the plates and give it a lick of primer and top coat of satin wood paint. Use steel wall brackets to fix back to wall.17/03/16 By Welshboy
I really want to put some shelves up in my kitchen but struggling to find suitable ones, what would you recommend for a kitchen?
Category: Kitchens | Posted By Louise Asekokhai-
Any good quality shelves will do the trick but varnish or paint the wooden shelves to protect them and fix them into sold walls if you are putting heavy items on them. You could make your own with decent planed timber and some quality brackets.16/03/16 By Welshboy

My bathroom walls suffer terribly from dampness which causes any paint to flake, Can you please give me some advise on what to do?
Category: Paint & Varnish | Posted By lindsey stuart-
You need a permanent air flow, ie a vent or better still mechanical extractor which can be wired up every time you put the light on or shower on etc. Worst case if you have a trickle vent on the window make sure it's open.16/03/16 By WelshboyTile it :)25/03/16 By Gemma Hart
We are in a rented house and using a bathroom as a bedroom and would like to cover the tiles to make it more like a bedroom .. any ideas ?
Category: Bathrooms | Posted By emma morgan-
I'm guessing you've removed the bath and loo etc..You could dot and dab the walls with plaster board and paint to finish but I'd check with the landlord for permissions first. Should be a days work for a pro. Post an add on here for a plasterer it's free.16/03/16 By Welshboy

Hiding pipes can end up being a problem later down the line. Why not consider replacing the pipes with good quality chrome pipes and show them off as a feature rather than trying to hide them.16/03/16 By Welshboy
What is the best paint to use on new walls?
Category: Paint & Varnish | Posted By louise paul-
If it's new plaster, give them a couple of coats of watered down PVA solution then I always give them a couple of coats of white paint before finishing with the colour you choose. I prefer using silk as it's easily wipeable.16/03/16 By Welshboy

I have a pet rabbit, I would like to fence off all the garden so she can not escape whilst playing in the sun, what would be the best way
Category: Fencing | Posted By Tanya Bryant-
You will need to fit posts no more than 6ft apart, 3 ft out of the ground and at least a 12inch in the ground set in post mix concrete. Then run some chicken mesh around to create an enclosure. Might be an idea to lay some flags around the perimeter to put bunny off a great escape.17/03/16 By Welshboy

I need to repaint one of my walls but its joint to a wall with wallpaper on. i need tips how not to catch the paper with the new paint
Category: Paint & Varnish | Posted By Adamnat87-
Use a stiff piece of cardboard pushed into the corner to shield the wallpaper and paint with a brush to about 6 inches away from the corner all the way down the wall. Then you can safely take a roller up to about 3 inches away from the corner without any splashes as long as your careful.11/03/16 By WelshboyI would use frog tape and then use a hair dryer on the tape to heat the glue up and remove so you don't rip the paper. Non of my walls are flat enough for anything else really.11/03/16 By Ash Walbridge
What's better in a bedroom Matt or vinyl paint
Category: Paint & Varnish | Posted By Chris Woodgate-
Personally i prefer silk paint to matt as then you can wipe clean any marks. Also when the light catches the walls it goves them a soft glow. Each to their own however :-)11/03/16 By Adamnat87Vinyl14/03/16 By Jacqueline WrightPersonaly i prefer silk paint and it gives a lovely shine and wipes clean where matt paint leaves a greasy mark when you try to wipe20/03/16 By Adamnat87
Do you know what cleaner is the best to clean quartz tiles on a kitchen floor please? Thanks in advance
Category: Tiles | Posted By Adamnat87-
Use a mild soap and plain water solution. Do not use any acid based cleaning agents. Give a wet mop (made of soft material) to the flooring just after the sweeping. Never use any abrasive scrubber to remove hard or stubborn stains, just scrub gently using a soft wet cloth.09/03/16 By Welshboy

Whats the best way to plant grass and what tools do i need
Category: Lawns/Borders/Beds | Posted By rebecca hewitt-
Spread the seed evenly by hand in small areas. Use a hand or lawn spreader or a mechanical seeder in large areas. Apply approximately 16 seeds per square inch. Too many seeds too close together causes seedlings to fight for room and nutrients. Grass may be weak or thin in these areas.09/03/16 By Welshboy
What is the best product to use in cleaning painted walls to the exterior of my house
Category: Driveways/Paving/Walling | Posted By Vanessa Hehir-
A high pressure water cleaner will save you a lot of effort by blasting off accumulated grime, you will also save water and cut down on the dangerous chemicals you might otherwise use. Don't stand closer than a metre to the wall, keep the hose moving back and forth rather than aiming at one spot.09/03/16 By Welshboy
